Maximus is Black Bolt's younger brother, an Inhuman whose gifts are a mind that can take over others and an inventor's genius, and whose madness has driven a lifetime of coups against his brother. When the Incursions began he joined forces with Namor: he freed Corvus Glaive from Thanos's amber prison and offered Black Swan an alliance (New Avengers vol. 3 #19 and #21, 2014), then founded the Cabal with Namor and freed the Illuminati's prisoners to fill it (#23). He survived the end of the multiverse in the Cabal's life raft (Secret Wars #1, 2015). On Battleworld he turned prophet: he raised an army of Doom-deniers, led it against Doom's loyalist barons outside Castle Doom, and died on the battlefield, torn apart by Baron Madelyne Pryor's goblin hordes (Secret Wars #6–7). Like most of Battleworld's dead, he was back after the multiverse returned.
