Tony Stark built his first armor in a cave to escape his captors and to keep shrapnel away from his heart (Tales of Suspense #39, 1963), and he has rebuilt it ever since as an inventor, industrialist and founding Avenger (Avengers #1, 1963). In Doomquest, Doom's time platform threw both men back to King Arthur's Camelot, where Doom sought Morgan le Fay's sorcery and Tony fought beside Arthur, until they called a truce to get home (Iron Man #149–150, 1981). Merlin brought them together again in 1989, sending both to the year 2093 to help a reborn Arthur against an older Doom (Iron Man #249–250). As director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Tony traced a symbiote attack on New York to Latveria, led the Mighty Avengers into Doom's castle and arrested him (Mighty Avengers #9–11, 2008). After Secret Wars, with Tony out of action, Doom took up the Iron Man name in a suit of his own and tried to do good (Infamous Iron Man #1–12, 2016–17). Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark in Marvel's films for more than a decade, returns as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
