Stephen Strange was a brilliant, arrogant surgeon until a car accident ruined his hands. Searching for a cure, he found the Ancient One in the Himalayas and became his student (Strange Tales #115, 1963), and in time Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. In Triumph and Torment (1989), Doom came second to Strange in the contest for that title and used his runner-up's boon to make Strange help him free his mother's soul from Mephisto, which they did. On Battleworld, Strange served God Emperor Doom as sheriff, then hid the survivors of the old multiverse from him; Doom killed him (Secret Wars #4, 2015). Allies again after Doom's return, the two banished Mephisto together (Infamous Iron Man #12, 2017). At the end of Blood Hunt (2024), Doom became Sorcerer Supreme himself. Al Ewing's Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange one-shot is due November 4, 2026.
