Is Doctor Doom dead?
Doom's status changed twice in a year. Here is where he stands in the comics as of October 2026, how he got there, what to read next, and every other time he has died.
Not any more, as far as the comics have shown. Doom died in One World Under Doom #9 (November 19, 2025), trading his life so the Living Tribunal would bring Valeria Richards back. In Captain America vol. 14 #15 (September 2, 2026) he accepted Mephisto's bargain to live again, on one condition: the next time he dies, his soul belongs to Mephisto for good. On screen, Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom makes his full debut in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.
How Doctor Doom died
In One World Under Doom (2025), by Ryan North and R.B. Silva, Doom made himself Emperor of Earth and spent nine issues trying to fix the world by force. In the final issue he fixed events in place and detonated his own armor, and its shards mortally wounded Valeria Richards, his goddaughter. The Vishanti refused to bring her back. The Living Tribunal agreed, once Doom said he would pay the price. He asked Reed Richards to care for the world and disintegrated (One World Under Doom #9, November 19, 2025).
His will, hidden in his mask, left everything to Valeria. In The Will of Doom #1 (December 24, 2025), she sold off his assets for charity, kept Doom Island and stopped a coup by his leftover Doombots.
Doom in Hell
Doom's soul went to Hell, and in Chip Zdarsky's Captain America (vol. 14, from #12 in June 2026) Steve Rogers's soul landed there beside him. The two men, who had rarely agreed on anything, hunted the Antidivine, a sword that could kill Mephisto, while Doom's first love, Valeria von Frazen, hunted Doom. In #15 the sword was destroyed.
The deal that brought him back
In Captain America vol. 14 #15 (September 2, 2026), Mephisto offered Doom his life back, and Doom accepted. The terms, as ComicBook.com and Comic Watch describe them: he may live again, but the next time he dies there is no coming back, and his soul belongs to Mephisto forever. Steve Rogers made his own deal in the same issue.
The same day, Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #1 came out, and reviewers read it as showing a revived Doom attacking Atlantis with forces from Hell. Marvel's solicitations for the series still describe the two kings heading to Hell to confront Doom, so exactly what state he is in, body, soul or something bound to Mephisto, is still being told.

Is Doctor Doom dead in the MCU?
No. Doom has not yet had a full appearance in Marvel's films. A cloaked figure, face unseen, appears beside Franklin Richards in the mid-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), and Robert Downey Jr. plays Doom in Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027).
